membership called present play we run a scholarship contest to make sure that we can allow for people who may not otherwise be able to join us to be in our community and to announce our 10 lucky winners this year I am so thrilled and honored to be sharing their wisdom with you you have to hear these incredible nuggets that they have shared number 10 I'm jelica I thought my priority was to make them obedient no matter what just because I say so I wish every parent knew there is a different way to raise kids from love and respect that works better in the long term for them and that will make better human beings it's true don't fall into the permissive of punitive parenting styles as a default just because that may be what you grew up with and what you think is the only thing that's available there are other available parenting solutions and approaches that we can learn just like any new skill and they are far more effective number 9 hi my name is V really even in Saigon Vietnam I can only give what I have and that my cup needs to be food first avital is not the first one to tell me that but she's the only one who helped me make sense of it and my life change ever since your kids need you to love you love yourself as much as you love them yes your children need you to love yourself as much as you love them the way that you feel about yourself will probably be mirrored in the way that they feel about themselves so check yourself before you wreck yourself do you have to call yourself dumb when you make a mistake well can you practice a little bit of grace and self compassion do you have to complain about being overweight or getting gray hairs or can you celebrate your body and shape just as you are remember your self-talk becomes their self-talk plus life is just more fun when you learn to love yourself number eight my name is Lou Ella and I'm an expect Canadian living in the Netherlands I knew I wanted to discover how to enjoy parenting and the parenting junkie has helped me to discover this and still continues to help me I wish that every parent knew about and was aware of their own triggers and their own inner child all in the name of giving us parents the empowerment to change our lives into something more joyful with our children yes what makes parenting truly hard secret it is not the sleepless nights or the financial burdens although those do not help what makes parenting truly challenging is the fact that we get triggered by our children like nothing else in the world suddenly when you have kids and they push back against you you find yourself behaving like a two-year-old screaming yelling punishing kicking and that is really difficult re parenting our own in a child and overcoming some of those triggers is what makes parenting so challenging and so rewarding number seven my name is Christine and I living in India I decided like differently we tried to be more gentle we tried to be more conscious as people and as a parent we need to be the change that we want to see in the world if we are gentle actively chattered if we are respectful respectfully and it applies to all modeling the best parenting advice ever hands down show don't tell true kids how you want them to treat others so simple so profound yet so difficult I know number six Emma I couldn't understand why mother who didn't feel as good as I had always imagined I was really surprised at how I had that culture influenced my parenting ideals I wish your parents knew how great life can be when you make the decision to parent on purpose instead of how culture dictates you can end the cycle of shame and make the world a better place our cultural norms are so entrenched in us that sometimes we're not even aware of them liberate your mind to find fresh new ways to approach parenting that might feel more joyful and more like you number five Hannah the parenting junkie is a recent find for me but it has already given me a starting point the parenting junkie has impacted my life while already making it less stressful and chaotic I am more a loving and understanding parent to my kids help is available you aren't alone and you don't have to be alone I wished everybody knew where to get information and resources to learn and make small steps into the right direction get help help help help we're not supposed to do this alone people it is eyes and heart to those around you I am pretty sure you may well find an abundance of free help from the people around you who want to support you you need to be open to receiving number four my name is Cecilia and I'm from Norway I find myself struggling to be the motor that I always wanted to be but when I found avital she she spoke to my heart and she reminds me of what is important to me as a mother my motherhood is not about being perfect or have this perfect family it's about presence and play and connection and intimacy and I wish that for every parent embrace your quirks your weirdness and even your flaws and weaknesses and you might just find that those are ultimately your biggest strengths number three I'm man all before I found the president the parenting junkie I was a completely chaotic parent oh my god I was completely lost if I look back at that time I will do it again parenting junkie has impacted my life majorly on all levels on my self-confidence but also in decluttering in making my life and the life of my children and my family actually much more relaxed and mindful I wish that every parent would know and find their way to to do the podcast to the videos to everything that avital is sharing with all these parents from all over the world I'm so happy internet exists even otherwise I would be still lost we live in an awesome day and age of information that can be overwhelming I mean the Internet can cause information overload and decision fatigue and comparison which is the thief of joy making you feel just kind of down in the dumps about your own life or we can use the internet to find account thinkers and content creators that lift us up to find connection to like-minded parents and to find inspiring actionable ideas the Internet is not good or bad it's all in how you use it number two hi I'm Jess from Australia since founding the parenting junkie I have worked how to set and hold firm limits while still being
